Professional career
Daniel Kang, diagnosed with Cancer – Out of Amundi Evian Championship. The first tournament that Kang played in was the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship in September 2011. She got admitted to the LPGA Qualifying School in 2011. She was given conditional status (Priority List Category 20) in the LPGA Tour 2012. She played 19 events in that tour, made 13 cuts, and bagged an amount of $239,184 as her earnings. She qualified for the full status in the LPGA Tour of 2013.
Her first came in the 2017 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the following year, she won the Buick LPGA Shanghai by two strokes. In 2019, she won the Buick LPGA Shanghai again.
On the 2nd of August 2022, she won the LPGA Drive on Championship at Inverness Club in Ohio. A week later, Kang won her 5th LPGA tournament at Marathon Classic.
She registered a victory at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Orlando, Florida on the 23rd of January 2022.
Kang’s Cancer
In June 2022, at the 77th US Women’s Open Kang revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer in her spine. As result, she would require a break from her sports career for a full recovery taking time to get her body back to 100% to be able to play other games.
Withdrawal from Amundi Evian Championship
After announcing her cancer in the last month, Kang kept updating her fans with her physical progress. On the 7th of July 2022, she took to Twitter and announced that she would remain absent in the Amundi Evian Championship to be held in France from 21st July to 24th July 2022, and her nonattendance might extend through the fourth major of the season. She also expressed her gratitude toward her team.
Danielle also missed the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship staged at the historic Congressional Country Club. A six-time winner on the LPGA, owing to her tumor, she also withdrew from the Palos Verdes Championship In April.
The year 2022 started well for Kang. She won the championship tournament of Champions to open the season and three more top 10s followed that victory. But her life took an uncertain turn in late March at the JTBC Classic, where she finished T-42 after she withdrew from two events of LPGA.
However, Kang has not yet ruled out the Women’s British Open, scheduled to be played from August 4-7, 2022 at Muirfield.
